Colas Rail Wins the Contract for the Extension of the T13 Tram Line between Saint-Germain-en-Laye and Achères
Colas Rail, in a joint venture with Colas and Colas GC, has once again been selected by Île-de-France Mobilités to build the infrastructure for the extension of the T13 tram line between SaintGermain-en-Laye and Achères (78).

The contract, valued at 40.6 million euros, covers the design and construction of the track beds, the rail tracks, the overhead contact line, and the related structural work for the station platforms. This sustainable transportation project also has a strong corporate social responsibility (CSR) component.
The T13 line currently connects Saint-Cyr-l’École to Saint-Germain-en-Laye – the first phase of which was carried out by a consortium comprising Colas and Colas Rail – and is now being extended toward Achères. This major infrastructure project aims to strengthen public transportation services in the Yvelines department by offering a viable alternative to private cars and improving connections to major transportation routes (RER lines A and E, and Transilien lines L and J). Launched at the end of last June, the project will employ approximately 150 workers at its peak.
The planned work includes, in particular, the supply and installation of rail track over 11.4 km of single track, including:
. installation of conventional concrete track: 6.2 km of single track;
. installation of ballasted track: 3.8 km of single track;
. four track switches: two concrete crossovers and two simple ballasted turnouts;
. construction of four new stations;
. installation of platform surfacing: mineral surfacing and green surfacing.
Road and utility infrastructure work is also included:
. various demolition work and backfilling of utility lines within the platform right-of-way;
. earthwork (excavation and backfilling);
. installation of utility lines: 8,000 linear meters in total;
. installation of conduits for various equipment;
. platform drainage; installation of stone and concrete curbs.
The supply and installation of the overhead contact line (OCL) are included in this contract, specifically comprising:
. detailed design studies for the six sectors,
. construction of 241 catenary foundations, including 31 micropile foundations,
. supply and installation of painted base plates on these foundations,
. supply and installation of 471 suspension points on 250 support structures,
. the supply, uncoiling, and adjustment of 15 km (single-track equivalent) of 150² contact wire,
. the supply and installation of equipotential bonding and MANT work over 12.5 km,
. inspections, testing, and commissioning.
To minimize their environmental impact, the Colas Rail teams working on this project will install a patented solution – the permeable green track laying in troughs – which has a carbon footprint 27% lower than that of a conventional solution. In addition, waste management and material reuse will be optimized, notably through the use of the nearby Tersen (Colas group) recycling facility, which will enable the recycling of demolition materials. Some of the materials will also be repurposed for construction of access roads and temporary roadways.
The social component will include the hiring of individuals in reintegration programs on the construction site, as well as inclusion initiatives; an information campaign for local residents is also planned.
