The company will supply the French operator, SNCF Voyageurs, with 22 Régiolis regional trains for operation in "Région Sud" (Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur).
With this latest order for regional trains, SNCF Voyageurs - responsible for operating the region’s rail services - reaffirms its confidence in the CAF-Alstom consortium. This new rolling stock will expand the region’s existing fleet of 17 trains previously purchased by Région Sud and will replace the units currently running on the Marseille–Aubagne–Toulon–Hyères line, as well as the route connecting Marseille-Toulon-Les Arcs–Draguignan.
CAF will design and manufacture the trains at its Reichshoffen plant in Alsace and Alstom will supply various items of equipment for these units. These consist of six-car Régiolis electric regional trains with a capacity to accommodate 310 passengers. They offer high passenger comfort with large panoramic windows, indirect LED interior lighting, and comfortable seats fitted with reading lights and power outlets. The trains will also have designated areas for passengers with reduced mobility. The units will also comply with the 2023 TSI standards, which impose stricter requirements on fire and smoke emissions and the materials used in manufacturing.
CAF continues to strengthen its commitment to France - one of its core markets
Since 2019, CAF has established itself as a key player in the French railway landscape through its commercial successes and industrial commitment. This latest order reaffirms the company's commitment to its industrial strategy in France, where it operates two production facilities: The Bagnères-de-Bigorre plant, which specialises in manufacturing trams and short-train configurations, and the Reichshoffen plant, which is dedicated to trains over 50 metres in length.
It should be noted that the CAF Group currently offers one of the most extensive product ranges in the French market; from long-distance Intercités trains to zero-emission buses, including RER trains, trams, and metros. Together, these projects strengthen and expand CAF’s footprint in France, positioning the country’s market as one of the company’s key markets in the years to come. Furthermore, this consolidates the industrial workload plan for the French plants and strengthens CAF's position as a benchmark company and long-term partner to local, regional and national authorities in developing public transport in France.
CAF is currently fulfilling various contracts for some of the major French rail networks. Highlights include trains for the RER B commuter line in Paris; new Intercités units for SNCF serving the Paris-Clermont, Paris-Toulouse, and Bordeaux-Marseille lines; and tram projects in the metropolitan areas of Montpellier, Marseille, Tours, and Grenoble.
