Intermodal Station for Riyadh Metro

The Royal Commission for Riyadh City has inaugurated the Western Station of the Riyadh Metro, completing the entire Orange Line consisting of 22 stations built by Webuild. The infrastructure is part of the Saudi capital’s 176-kilometer driverless metro network, developed to support integrated urban mobility through multimodal public transport systems.

Urban Applications and Mobility Integration
Located along Al Madinah Al Munawarah Road in western Riyadh, the Western Station was designed as an intermodal hub intended to manage urban mobility flows and integrate different transport modes.

The facility covers an area of 112,000 square meters and includes an elevated metro station, a bus terminal, an underground parking area with more than 600 parking spaces, commercial areas, a mosque and public spaces dedicated to pedestrian mobility and urban services.

The infrastructure contributes to redistributing urban traffic flows and improving connectivity between public transportation and private mobility.

Architectural and Structural Solutions
From a design perspective, the station was developed using architectural solutions inspired by the Saudi desert landscape. The complex incorporates horizontal volumes and shaped surfaces intended to improve integration with the local urban and climatic environment.

The main structures include two large arches with spans of up to 115 meters and a height of approximately 24 meters, supporting the station’s roof structures. The architectural configuration was designed to maximize natural lighting inside the facility while creating shaded areas for external pedestrian pathways.

Sustainability and Energy Performance
The Western Station was developed according to LEED Gold criteria, an internationally recognized standard for sustainable building design. The project integrates high-efficiency equipment and systems powered by self-generated renewable energy.

According to information provided by Webuild, these solutions enabled reductions in both energy and water consumption during the infrastructure construction phase.
