Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has delivered 18 of the ordered third-generation Traxx Universal locomotives to CLIP Intermodal. Capable of operating at speeds of up to 160 km/h, the locomotives can haul heavier freight trains than other locomotives in the same class. Their design is based on a modular platform used in both passenger and freight transport and is available in AC, DC and multi-system configurations. The locomotive bodies were manufactured at Alstom’s facility in Wrocław, Poland.

The locomotives were delivered under several contracts covering the manufacture of 13 vehicles approved for operation in Poland, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria and France, as well as five locomotives intended for operation in Poland, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. In addition to rolling stock production, the contracts also include two years of preventive maintenance services during the warranty period.

The delivery of the locomotives marks another milestone in the partnership between Alstom and CLIP Intermodal, a member of CLIP Group. The Traxx locomotives will enable the logistics operator to expand its international intermodal transport operations, strengthening its presence both on routes connecting Poland with Western Europe and along key transport corridors across Central Europe. The multi-system locomotives will support CLIP Intermodal’s participation in key logistics supply chains, delivering high operational efficiency in cross-border freight transport.

“CLIP Intermodal is today one of the leaders of the logistics transformation in Poland and the wider region. We are impressed by the company’s continued investment in infrastructure and services that strengthen Poland’s position as a strategic transport hub in Europe. We are proud that Alstom locomotives can support such a dynamic and fast-growing business. We believe that combining innovative rail technologies with CLIP’s vision for growth is accelerating the development of a modern, sustainable and competitive transport system across Europe,” said Beata Rusinowicz, the Managing Director of Alstom in Poland.

The locomotives for CLIP Intermodal are equipped with Alstom’s Onvia Cab onboard European Train Control System (ETCS) solution, enabling seamless cross-border operations in compliance with European railway signalling standards. Alstom has delivered more than 300 ETCS onboard projects worldwide, with more than 25,000 onboard units installed on over 200 vehicle types.

Traxx Universal locomotives have been approved for operation in 20 countries, collectively covering more than 300 million kilometres each year. Since 2000, more than 6,000 Alstom locomotives have been ordered for operation across Europe as well as in Asia, North America and Africa. Alstom is also a leader in the locomotive maintenance segment, currently providing maintenance services for more than 2,450 locomotives worldwide, including over 600 Traxx locomotives.
