Vossloh will supply up to three million concrete railway sleepers to Norway under a framework agreement with Bane NOR. The contract, awarded to Sateba Norway, a subsidiary of Vossloh, runs for up to eight years, with the first two years valued at approximately €50 million.
A key factor in the award decision was environmental performance. The sleepers are manufactured using cement produced with carbon capture technology, reducing CO₂ emissions during production by more than 40 percent compared to previously used solutions.
Agnete Johnsgaard-Lewis, CEO of Bane NOR, described the agreement as an important contract, highlighting both the critical role of concrete sleepers in railway infrastructure and the environmental benefits of lower-emission production.
Vossloh AG acquired Sateba on October 1, strengthening its position in the European concrete sleeper market. According to Oliver Schuster, CEO of Vossloh AG, the contract demonstrates the strategic fit between the companies and supports Bane NOR’s climate ambitions.
The sleepers will be produced at Sateba’s plant in Hønefoss, Norway, using cement supplied by Heidelberg Materials. The implementation of carbon capture technology in cement production marks a significant step toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions in rail infrastructure projects.
