To mark the opening, passengers will enjoy free travel through August 31 during a two-month trial period.

The Sanying Line, delivered with significant contribution from Hitachi Rail's advanced rail solutions and expertise, represents a major milestone in the expansion of New Taipei City's metro network. Stretching 14.29 kilometres and comprising 12 stations, the line connects the districts of Tucheng, Sanxia, and Yingge, significantly improving connectivity and reducing travel times to central Taipei and New Taipei City by up to 20 minutes.

As New Taipei City's first self-developed medium-capacity MRT system, the project integrates cutting-edge technology and modern passenger-focused design. Leveraging Hitachi Rail's innovation capabilities, the system includes modern and stylish trains, enhanced safety features, advanced train systems and multilingual ticketing services, contributing to a reliable, more efficient and accessible passenger experience.

Operations on opening day will begin at 2:00 p.m. and run until 8:00 p.m. From July 1, services will operate daily between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., with train intervals of approximately six minutes during peak periods and eight minutes off-peak. After the trial phase, full service is expected to extend from 6:00 a.m. to midnight.

With the addition of the Sanying Line, New Taipei City's MRT network expands to 108 kilometres and 90 stations, reinforcing its position as the most extensive metro system in Taiwan and highlighting the importance of strategic partnerships with global rail leaders such as Hitachi Rail in delivering modern, sustainable mobility solutions.

Gabriel Koe, Senior Director of Projects & Sales for Taiwan, Indonesia and Philippines, Hitachi Rail, said: "This significant achievement represents the second major systems turnkey metro project successfully commissioned in Taiwan, the first being Taipei Circular Line Phase 1 which was opened on January 31st 2020 and reinforces Hitachi Rail's footprint and commitment to improving and modernizing the rail infrastructure of the major cities of Taiwan."
