The industrial consortium led by Talgo has initiated the BasqTrain 35 project to design a new generation of very high speed trains. The technical initiative implements modular traction systems to standardize railway mobility across the different national markets in Europe.
Railway Architecture and Interoperability
The current fragmentation of European railway infrastructure requires the manufacturing of trains adapted to national regulations, which increases production costs and limits cross-border interoperability. To resolve this technical incompatibility, the structural design of the BasqTrain 35 incorporates versatile modular configurations that allow circulation throughout different international networks. The technical development requires an investment of 105 million euros over a period of three years, allocating 78 million directly to research and development processes.
Distributed Traction and Predictive Maintenance
The railway platform employs artificial intelligence algorithms and advanced industrialization processes to maximize the energy efficiency of the units. Ingeteam provides the power electronics engineering, enabling the implementation of distributed traction systems that reduce the total weight of the cars and optimize mechanical space. Additionally, the trains integrate smart monitoring networks designed to digitize operational processes and execute continuous predictive maintenance routines.
Industrial Ecosystem Integration
The deployment of this transformative project requires the technical integration of twelve companies from the Basque value chain, operating in coordination with the MAFEX cluster and the centers of the Basque Science, Technology and Innovation Network directed by CEIT. The initiative is structured within the Euskadi 2030 Industry Plan, conceived to develop railway infrastructures and systems. At the operational level, the execution of the project anticipates the generation of over 140 highly qualified jobs, consolidating industrial capacity to compete in the global market.
