Less than a month before the opening of the 12th edition of EXPO Ferroviaria 2025, the biennial international exhibition for railway technologies, products and systems, scheduled from 30 September to 2 October in Halls 9 and 11 of Fiera Milano Rho, some of the main innovations that exhibitors will be showcasing at the event have been announced, including those presented in the outdoor area set up at Fiorenza Trenord.
This area will be accessible free of charge via a dedicated shuttle, upon booking entry at the following link. Access requires prior registration by selecting a preferred date and time slot, bearing in mind that places are limited.
INNOVATION, TECHNOLOGIES AND DEDICATED AREAS
On the tracks of the outdoor area, FS Logistix (FS Group) will showcase a wagon equipped with DAC (Digital Automatic Coupling) technology, an innovative system that allows wagons to be coupled automatically and smartly. The DAC trial, carried out within the framework of Europe's Rail TRANS4M-R project, aims to make freight trains more efficient, safe and competitive through integration with digital technologies. In addition, Sitav (Società Italiana Treni Alta Velocità) will present a prototype of a hydrogen-powered shunting locomotive, developed in collaboration with the University of Genoa, designed for manoeuvring and last-mile operations.
This edition also features, inside Hall 11, TREEN, the first Italian battery train built by Stadler for Ferrovie Appulo Lucane. The train, which is over 36 metres long and built with lightweight aluminium alloy car bodies, can carry around 180 passengers and is equipped with a 636 kWh battery pack. The range of the battery train is designed for a round trip on the Altamura-Matera route.
The exhibition area will also include various spaces showcasing specific technologies and new business opportunities for the industry. Among them, the Innovation Hub, entirely dedicated to start-ups and SMEs presenting highly innovative and creative solutions to tackle future mobility challenges. The presence of the Aerospace Technology Hub will allow visitors to explore the latest innovations in aerospace, while the Tunneling Area will be organised in partnership with TELT – Tunnel Euralpin Lyon Turin and SIG – Società Italiana Gallerie.
