Koleje Mazowieckie Orders 11 More FLIRT Trains

Koleje Mazowieckie (Masovian Railways) has signed a contract with Stadler Polska for the delivery of 11 additional FLIRT electric multiple units, completing the largest rolling-stock investment programme in the operator’s history. With this final order, the framework agreement for 75 modern FLIRT trains is now fully implemented.

To date, 64 units have already been contracted, and the newly ordered trains will further enhance passenger comfort and operational efficiency across the Masovian region. The first vehicles from the programme are expected to enter service in April 2026.

“Masovian Railways is one of the most modern regional operators in Poland, largely thanks to consistent investment in new rolling stock,” said Adam Struzik, Marshal of the Masovian Voivodeship. “With this final contract, the full programme of 75 trains is secured.”

Maintenance, training, and long-term support included

In addition to vehicle delivery, the contract covers maintenance services, technical training for personnel, and repair packages, ensuring long-term reliability and operational readiness.

Robert Stępień, CEO and General Director of Koleje Mazowieckie, highlighted the strategic importance of the project: “The purchase of 64 units has already received EU funding, and we will apply for additional support for the remaining 11. Completing this framework agreement is a key milestone in the modernization of our fleet.”

Production in Poland and job creation

All new FLIRT trains will be manufactured at Stadler’s Siedlce plant, with strong involvement from local suppliers.

“The completion of the framework agreement allows us to further develop our operations in Siedlce,” said Radosław Banach, CEO of Stadler Polska. “This year alone, we have created nearly 400 new jobs, and our engineering team has expanded to 100 specialists, with recruitment still ongoing.”

Poland’s largest FLIRT fleet

Production of the previously ordered 64 units is progressing according to schedule, with 25 trains currently in manufacturing, commissioning, or type testing. Once all deliveries are completed, Koleje Mazowieckie will operate 146 FLIRT trains, making it the largest FLIRT fleet in Poland.

The new vehicles will operate routes between Warsaw and towns across Masovia, offering enhanced comfort and safety. The trains feature lightweight aluminium construction, energy-efficient operation, and a top speed of 160 km/h. Onboard equipment includes air conditioning, Wi-Fi, CCTV, passenger information systems, defibrillators, and full accessibility for passengers with reduced mobility.

Nearly two decades of cooperation

The partnership between Stadler Polska and Koleje Mazowieckie dates back almost 20 years. The first FLIRT units delivered in 2006 remain in active service today. Between 2020 and 2023, Stadler supplied 61 trains, and the contracts signed in 2024–2025 will add another 75 units, further strengthening regional rail transport in Masovia.
